Struggling to score highly in 25 mark questions?
Get better at the 25 mark questions with practice and guidance. These questions can be daunting for some students. We can break down how to answer 25 markers, how to extend your analysis to a high level and how to write conclusions.
We can practise essay plans and even attempt timed chains of reasoning and evaluation paragraphs for 25 mark questions specifically in the sessions. Learn core analysis-evaluation patterns to make it easier to score high consistently.
Unsure how to structure your 5, 8, 10, 12 and 15 mark questions?
Work on essay structures. How much should you write for the section B questions, such as the 5, 8, 10, 12 and 15 markers? We can discuss the right amount of analysis, application and evaluation for each question type, with examples and practice.
For instance for the 8 mark question, this is points based (2 knowledge, 2 application, 2 analysis and 2 evaluation marks). This gives flexibility in how you structure depending on the question and the points you can think of. The key is whichever structure you pick (2-2, 1-1, 2-1 and so on) that you meet the 8 points to score highly within a quick time.
Do you find some course content challenging?
I can assist you by teaching the course content in a highly personalised way. Maybe you find particular concepts in the Edexcel A Economics A Level course difficult. We can then focus on those and cover the parts you do not understand.
Cost and revenue, government intervention, market failure and market structures can prove challenging topics in Themes 1 and 3 for microeconomics. Macroeconomic tradeoffs, quantitative easing, exchange rates and the current account can be difficult macroeconomics topics. We can run through the analysis and evaluation chains for these areas or others, point by point.
Alternatively you may want someone to go through the course material from scratch with you, through themes 1, 2, 3 and 4. In either case I can help you improve your understanding of and confidence with the key course topics.
Do you run out of time in school tests or mock exams?
Fix time management issues. The Edexcel A Economics exams can be tight for time and students can risk running out of time at the end of each paper. Where are you spending too much time and how can you be more efficient in answering the exam questions? We can also tackle this as part of our sessions.
Commonly this can involve spending too much time on 5 or 8 mark questions in Section B or 4 mark questions in Section A, though this can vary with each student. Reading extracts can be another time sink for some students. Paper 3 is a time management challenge in particular, with two 25 mark questions. Strategies to manage time again include limiting time on the 5 and 8 mark questions, but also a slightly more concise 25 marker approach if needed.
Are you lacking feedback on your essays?
Improve your answers. Get detailed feedback on how you can improve your answers. I focus on actionable steps to help students improve. That could be a particular change to how you analyse or evaluate, a misunderstanding of the course content, an issue with answer structure or any other issue.
Are you getting enough practice?
Get extra practice through homework assignments. I can set practice questions or practice papers for homework, as well as past papers. This helps to reinforce understanding of course content and exam technique.

C → A: Past paper reviews + improved evaluation
Main challenges: Putting in the work but not seeing grade improvement, issues with evaluation and the course content.
How the sessions helped: We covered how to evaluate which led to an improvement in evaluation scores quite quickly. Outside of sessions I marked past paper attempts, which we then reviewed in detail during the sessions. Where the attempts highlighted a misunderstood concept, we quickly revised this content.
A → A*: Hardest content + exam technique finesse to reach the top grade.
Main challenges: Evaluation paragraphs, getting “KAA” to the top level in 25 markers consistently, and challenges.
How the sessions helped: Weekly homework essays, reviews of schoolwork to highlight specific improvements to answers. We also covered course content, with a focus on high level evaluation points and the most difficult concepts.
B → A*: Levelling up Section B + 25 markers.
Main challenges: Unsure about exam technique and some of the more difficult aspects of the Edexcel A course.
How the sessions helped: Reviews of the student’s school work, showing how to improve their Section B (5, 8, 10, 12 and 15 mark) responses. We went on to discuss 25 markers in section C. Every week I set practice questions as homework, for different areas of the course. This led to a significant improvement in test scores.
E → A: content learning from scratch + exam technique practice
Main challenges: Lack of understanding of school content; issues with teaching. Exam technique issues for longer questions.
How the sessions helped: I taught the content from the ground up to improve understanding. Practice tests for homework and timed practice within the sessions contributed to significant grade improvements.
