Are you looking to improve your Economics A Level grades?
I’m Tom, a Cambridge-educated economist turned economics tutor. I am an A-Level Economics expert, with inside-out knowledge of the AQA and syllabus taken by many UK Economics A-Level students.
Since 2020 I have offered online A Level AQA Economics tuition. My goal is to help students improve their economics grades. I can also tutor other exam boards for A Level Economics such as Edexcel A.
Benefits of Economics A Level AQA Private Tuition with me
- Improve your understanding of the Economics A-Level AQA course content! Get difficult concepts explained in a way that makes sense to you. Alternatively, we can run through the course content from scratch.
- See how to improve your scores. I do this through marking and feedback on work from school and homework.
- Build on the learning from the sessions through frequent homework.
- Practise extra exam questions to boost your exam scores. I can set practice questions and papers, as part of homework and exam preparation, to achieve this.
- Learn exam technique strategies specific to your exam board. How much should you write for the 2, 4, 9 and 15 mark questions? How do you analyse and evaluate? We can talk through this in our tuition sessions.
- Get to know the optimal essay structures for long essay questions like the 25 markers. How many paragraphs should you write? How do you evaluate and write a conclusion for a 25 marker? We can cover the keys to high level 25 markers.
- Learn based on your situation. Trying to move from a C to a B? We can focus on key course content and basic exam technique. Trying to go from an A to an A*? Let’s discuss the advanced parts of the course that you don’t understand and master exam technique.
- Discuss timing strategies to make sure you don’t run out of time in the exam. This includes time management strategies for papers 1, 2 and 3.
Ultimately, all these benefits contribute to improving your scores and grade in A-Level AQA Economics. Students who engage in weekly long-term tuition with me have seen their Economics grade improve by two points on average.

Real case studies of AQA A Level Economics students whom I have tutored
Here are a few examples of how I’ve helped AQA Economics A Level students through weekly private tutoring:
One student started tuition with me about ten months before the exam, working at a grade B to begin with. Each week, we covered new course content and set homework to practise essay writing. As a result, the student’s work improved to a borderline A/A* and eventually an A* in the final months. At the end of the course the student received an A*. The key for this student was continuous practice of essay structures for the 25 markers, applied to many different parts of the course content.
Another AQA Economics student started tuition also about ten months before the exam. They were working at a B/A borderline grade. This student was generally competent on the course content, so we revised the course content mainly when it concerned difficult topics, such as the balance of payments or some aspects of market structures. We focussed a lot on exam technique. This included how much to write for the 25 marker questions, perfecting evaluation, time management and conclusions. They were able to score consistent A* grades in practice questions and frequently topped the class on school tests. The student went on to achieve an A* in AQA A Level Economics.
I started tuition with another AQA Economics A Level student a few months before the exam. They were working at about a C grade. We worked on exam technique, particularly learning how to evaluate and conclude. This included how many paragraph to write for each of the 9, 15 and 25 mark questions. We also worked on the harder parts of the course content, including tariffs, financial markets and the balance of payments. Learning evaluation skills helped boost marks in school essays quickly. Covering additional course content and essay technique led to a further improvement in scores. The student ended up with an A grade on their final exam. Unlocking how to evaluate and structure essays was key for this student.
Reviews for AQA Economics A Level tutoring
“My twins started with Tom in August and we could not have asked for a more professional and effective tutor if we had tried. In the 9/10 months of lessons we had, he has boosted both their grades and confidence massively by working on both their exam technique and subject knowledge through a variety of methods; the twins started on a low B and an A respectively and both achieved comfortable A*s. His passion for Economics and deep knowledge of the subject area has enabled his tutoring to be fruitful in many areas and his hard work outside the lessons marking homework and writing mock exams goes far above the levels of normal tutors. I would 100% recommend him to any student or parent looking for an A Level Economics tutor.” From a parent of two Economics A-Level students
“Whether it was Oxbridge admissions work, A-Level work or simply university applications, every session was met with enthusiasm, patience and preparation of the highest quality. All mylessons were exceptional and moulded to my needs. I would highly recommend Tom for anyone at any level of education who wants to not only better there grades but their understanding of their subject.” Economics A-Level student
