As well as economics tutoring, I also provide support for students applying for UK universities.
I have been helping students with their university applications for competitive economics courses since 2015, after my admission to Cambridge for Economics.
A section of my website is also dedicated to this, providing several articles on writing personal statements, interviews and the broader admissions process. I have also advised schools on how to improve their economics admissions.
What does UCAS applications support include?
This support includes:
- Personal statement work. This includes:
- Which activities you should attempt for your personal statement;
- Discussions of these activities;
- How to build paragraphs;
- Reviews of personal statement drafts, individual paragraphs and more.
- How to approach each of the three questions required for UCAS applications.
- For Year 12 students, we can cover supercurricular activities from scratch, gradually building up the elements required for the personal statement. Generally, the more time we have, the greater the impact of the tutoring.
- For Year 13 students, we can discuss improvements to the PS or how to draft it from the beginning, depending on where you are up to. If you need to add more activities, I can advise on this too.
- Please note I do not write the personal statement for the student however; this is all down to them.
- For Oxbridge Economics applicants (including Oxford’s E&M, PPE and Cambridge Economics) I can also offer mock interviews and extended preparation for interviews.
- Economics interview sessions often include an extended mock interview before feedback near the end of the sessions.
- Extended preparation can include reviews of typical interview material, which is essentially a look into undergraduate economics and economics mock interview sessions.
- Where information is available, I try to tailor this to the college, as interview questions vary significantly by college.
- I can also help students prepare for admissions tests (TMUA and TARA).
- Discussing choices for university courses or any other questions related to the application.
